About UsThe Bult is a congregation of the Reformed Churches in South Africa (RCSA). We are a Reformed Church because we believe that the Bible is most faithfully understood and taught in Reformed Christianity.
The English as well as the Tswana service takes place in our church hall while our two Afrikaans services takes place in the church building We also have midweek meetings where we study the Bible together and pray in small group contexts. |
Reformed tradition
As a Reformed Church, we belong to a tradition that goes back to the time of the Reformation in 16th Century Europe, when the core truths of the Bible were rediscovered. Read more/less.
These basic Christian theological truths have often been summarised as the five solas, namely:
Sola Fide ("faith alone"): We are saved through faith alone in Jesus Christ.
Sola Scriptura ("Scripture alone"): The Bible alone is our highest authority.
Sola Christus ("Christ alone"): Jesus Christ alone is our Lord and Saviour.
Sola Gratia ("grace alone"): We are saved by the grace of God alone.
Sola Deo Gloria ("to the glory of God alone"): We live for the glory of God alone.
The RCSA believe that what the Bible teaches is faithfully summarised in the Ecumenical creeds of the early church as well as the 16/17th Century confessions knowns as the Three Forms of Unity (The Heidelberg Catechism, the Belgic Confessions and the Canons of Dortrecht). These documents can all be found here.

Our vision
Our vision is to serve God by being a part of God's mission IN, ON and OVER the Bult. Read more/less.
For us, being a Christian is primarily about relationships and we commit ourselves to a lifestyle whereby through listening, we want to be a part of God's mission IN our congregation, ON the piece of earth that God's has placed us and also OVER the whole world. We seek to do this by giving special attention to the following core values:
The centrality of the gospel - We believe that the gospel is the power of God for the salvation of everyone - therefore, we want to make sure that the gospel is central to everything we do IN, ON and OVER the Bult.
IN a renewed people - As God by his Spirit works in our hearts and changes us into the image of his Son Jesus Christ, we are daily being renewed to be a people whose lives are driven by the Gospel.
ON our Bult community - Since the gospel teaches us to be dependent upon the grace of God, this leads us to increasingly become a more loving church community, one that cares for and seeks the best for those who live on the Bult around us.
OVER the whole world - The gospel is good news about what God has done for us in Jesus Christ. It is for all people. We want to be a church community that trains, encourages and equips our members to take the gospel outside of the Bult and Potchefstroom and proclaim it to people throughout the world.

Our history
The Reformed Church Potchefstroom the Bult was founded on 30 October 2011 after two Reformed Church congregations, Noordbrug and Noord, joined together to become one church congregation. Read more/less.
Thus, we are still a very much a new church family, even though many of our members have been in the church for a long time!
Potchefstroom used to be a town in which the majority of people were Afrikaans speaking. As more and more international students came to study at the Potchefstroom Campus of the North-West University, it became clear that there was a need for an English or International Ministry to begin. This work started approximately 15 years ago and has developed since then, to such an extent that we now have English services throughout the year.
The international ministry of the Bult congregation is supported and encouraged by the existing Afrikaans congregation, who meet together on Sundays at 0930 and 1800 in the church building. There are approximately 40 people who regularly come to the English services, and as Potchefstroom becomes more and more multi-racial, we look forward to welcoming many more international and English-speaking South Africans into our church.
Even though we have English and Afrikaans services, we consider ourselves to be one church congregation. Our Afrikaans services are translated into English, so everyone is welcome to also attend them. We also hold lunches together and other events where church members from both the English and the Afrikaans services enjoy each other’s company.
